You’ve been looking forward to a relaxing week away from the daily grind. A time to enjoy sewing, without the laundry, dishes and housecleaning to distract you. You enjoy a scenic drive along Seneca Lake, arriving at the Amish Guest Farmhouse, located at 386 State Rte 14, Penn Yan, NY. The tranquil farmhouse was built in 1900, situated on 85 acres of farmland. Parking is on a level lot next to the handicapped accessible great room. You are thrilled to find a huge area with expansive natural light pouring in from a bank of windows. The fireplace is crackling. There are several eight foot tables ready for your sewing machine. You select a corner table with its own Ott Light, a power strip for your favorite gadgets, and best of all, you realize you are only a hundred yards away from Seneca Lake. The view of the lapping waves is mesmerizing.A massive granite topped bar area is perfect to plug in your favorite iron for a pressing station. You find up to three large rooms ready to set up sewing and quilting areas. A cathedral ceiling in the great room is a good spot to set up a design wall for the King size quilt you have been piecing. You and your best quilting buddy explore the rest of the farmhouse. You find a king size room upstairs, but have a hard time choosing among the 7 different bedrooms with up to nine quilt-covered beds. With three full bathrooms and two stairways, you know you and your friends will have all the privacy you need. The kitchen is a delight. You find a huge fridge and freezer, dishwasher, wall ovens, stove top and your favorite splurge – a K-cup coffee maker! A washer and dryer are great for those sewing projects that need a bit of help. Armed with a map, you set out to discover quite a few Amish/Mennonite quilt shops in the area. You find a local sewing machine dealer that has just the accessory that you have been looking for! On the way back, you realize the farmhouse is on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, within minutes of many world class wineries. It will be a fun week! At the end of the week you have laughed more than you thought possible. You have completed all your unfinished projects, helped a friend complete hers, and found several new quilting techniques.
